It’s no secret that NYC is one of the most inspirational cities in the world and Brooklyn is arguably the heart of its trendsetting culture. Rin Tanaka chose to bring his vintage trade show “Inspiration” to Brooklyn for the first time this Fall. In previous years the beautifully curated vintage clothing show has been held exclusively in Los Angeles. Brooklyn was the perfect backdrop to host as many of the worlds best vintage dealers call NYC home.

On a sunny and crisp Saturday stylish buyers and sellers of vintage wares shopped, traded insider tips and nerded out over everything from 60 year old distressed blue jeans to traditional Native American silver and turquoise jewelry. The quality level and selection of the vintage clothing and brands presented under one roof in one day was likely unprecedented in a city known for great stylistic achievements. Vendors showed mint examples of early american sportswear from Champion and Russell Athletics, French tailored suiting and workwear and printed African indigo textiles.

Style influencers didn’t disappoint as guys showed up wearing everything from vintage Buco leather motorcycle jackets from the 50’s to Thom Browne suits fresh off the runway. Ladies looked lovely with perfectly coifed hair, red lips, traditional Native American patterned wool bolero jackets and other period perfect ensembles. Everywhere you looked there was inspiration to be found, especially at the after party hosted by Ralph Lauren’s RRL that spilled over into neighboring Ludlow Blunt barber shop. Live music and libations set a festive tone to a party that the style aficionado wants to last forever. I guess we’ll have to wait until next year to do it all over again.
