It’s almost summer in Columbus, so break out the shades and shorts. We love summer here because our eclectic city has events and activities for all ages and interests. Here’s your guide to the summer happenings:

Walk around the Short North. Explore all the unique shops and boutiques. There’s something for everyone’s style, chances are you’ll find things that you never even knew you wanted. If you enjoy buying local, the Short North is the perfect place for you.

Grab some grub. Eat at one of the many local restaurants the Short North has to offer. Show all your friends that your palate is far superior to theirs, take a date to dinner and show him/her that your taste is impeccable, or simply treat the fam. There’s a little bit of everything; from Mexican to Italian to Southern comfort food, you won’t be disappointed.

Go for a spin on the trails. Columbus has a plethora of bike paths that enable you to see most of central Ohio. If you don’t own a bike, check out CoGo bike share, where you can rent a bike for a nice leisurely ride. Not only is biking good exercise, it’s a great way to explore the city.

Concerts, Concerts, Concerts. From the LC Pavilion to The Bluegrass Classic, there are concerts for everyone’s taste. You can find local talent at smaller venues, but Columbus also offers larger venues that bring in big names. To find time, dates, and names, check out Eventful.

America’s Pastime. The Columbus Clippers are a triple-A affiliate for the Cleveland Indians. Tickets can be purchased for as little as $7, and there always seems to be a special promotion going on. Nothing is better than a summer night baseball game. So grab a beer and a hotdog, sit back, and enjoy.

How art thou enjoying thyself? Enjoy permanent pieces and temporary exhibitions at the Columbus Museum of Art. View extravagant art, as well as the various events the museum hosts throughout the year, listed on their website. Oh, and did we mention it’s free on Sundays?

It may be summer, but who says you can’t still learn? When you’ve had enough of the heat, bring the whole family to COSI for a fun learning experience. COSI is a fun science center for all ages located in downtown Columbus. From permanent fun, to limited time only exhibits, to live shows, it’s almost impossible not to have a great time. Tickets are less than $20, and worth every penny.

Who doesn’t love animals? The zoo has been a summer staple since your grandparents were kids. The Columbus Zoo offers live shows, adventurous events, and fun times for all ages. Jack Hanna, the director emeritus, is a world famous animal lover and has shaped the Columbus Zoo to be what it is today.

Don’t forget to grab Jeni’s Ice Cream. It’s delicious year round, but it’s a must on a hot summer day. My personal favorite, The Buckeye State, pays homage to Columbus with salted peanut butter and bits of dark chocolate. Be careful though, this ice cream is seriously addicting.

Last but not least, relax. Enjoy your summer in the city and spend time with friends and loved ones. Surf the web to take advantage of the many other events and activities Ohio’s capital offers.
